Running Accomplishments:

I've been running since I was a 7th grader in 1988. At Washington High School (Parkland, WA), I ran on the cross country team and did the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m in track and field.

In college, a hamstring injury and IT band pain ended my college competitive racing almost before it began. With the help of my cousin, Preston, who was in Physical Therapy School, my injuries healed and I began running again.

In the 2000's my goals shifted to attaining a BQ. After making nearly every mistake possible in the marathon, I finally BQ'd and then ran Boston in 2010.

Personal Records:

1600m: 4:31 (1992)

Marathon: 3:09:41 (2012)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Get my body weight below 180 lbs

Race a  sub-40 10k

Consistently run 40+ miles/week

Long-Term Running Goals:

Sub 3 hour marathon PR

Race a sub 5 minute mile... one more time! (Last time I did it was when I was a teenager.)

Happy New Year!

Fort Steilacoom Resolution Run Series: 5 mile race

A nice day for Jan. 1st! It was cold, but not cold enough to race in running pants. I wore my earmuffs and gloves though.

I wasn't too serious for this race. No warmup or cooldown. I started in the back with Preston, Sarah, and their 2 girls. After warming up for the first 2 miles, I picked up the pace, knocking out runners one-by-one and finished strong.

Ate chilli with Preston and Co. and waited to see if one of his daughters got an age-group award. I didn't think I had a chance, but it looks like I took 2nd in my age group.

Always a great way to start the new year!

Maybe the slightest hint of sore muscles last night from the Jan. 1 race, but it's gone now.

Led the family along with Cub Scout Pack 505 up to the summit of Pinnacle Peak. It's only a mile to the top, but that mile comes with more than 1000 feet of elevation gain. And then we had to go down.

"Ran" into a neighbor who was walking back home, so I walked the last 1/4 mile with him.

Ran to Bradley Lake, felt a slight twinge in my left knee. I knew that if I wasn't careful, I could get injured, so I headed back home. On the way back, pain developed in my right ankle and started to increase in intensity. So, I decided to walk the last 1/2 mile home.

I'm glad I turned around when I did, otherwise, I would have been walking 1.5 miles back home!

Resolution Run 10 Mile

Besides an early, short, intermittent drizzle of rain, the weather was great. Some years, this race is on black ice.

Met and ran with a runner from Gig Harbour who happens to be a co-worker with one of my neighbors. It was his first time doing a Resolution Run. We ran at a brisk, comfortable pace. Most of the miles were 7 to 7:30 pace. I decided to go a little faster for the last mile in around 6 minutes.

Somehow, I'm finding myself in 1st place in the series for my age group. I think Scott is right; I'm in the least competetive age group.
